Given how you have listed emails on your “Contact” page, I assume you’ve legacy concerns about crawling for addresses. The reality is the entire “at” and “dot com” format has long since been scripted out to parse properly by harvesters. I would suggest actually hyperlinking Master Hamann’s name with the appropriate mailto tag in each instance his name is mentioned, and/or listing him within your “Contact” page. Encoding or masking the hyperlink won’t provide much value, either.

You’re right, visually obfuscated e-mails are not usable by website visitors; thus, I’ve opted for javascript encoding, which should still look fine for users but (hopefully) should be harder to parse by harvesters.
Solution
This was solved by installing the “Email Obfuscate Shortcode” plugin. Emails should be written hereafter using the following format [email-obfuscate email="bob@iastate.edu"]
